The Expanded Perception & Interaction Centre (EPICentre) is a pioneering high-performance visualisation facility that builds on decades of expertise in the design of interactive virtual environments, simulations and visualisation applications. EPICentre is a game changer for research relying on large data sets and for broad public engagement with advanced research. The EPI Centre’s potential applications and impact across mental health research, simulations, science advancements and science engagement are immense. Incorporating an array of interactive 3D environments, the EPICentre enables cross-connecting visualisation with applied computational simulation science, artificial intelligence, and creativity in arts and science. Located with the Art & Design campus of UNSW, the EPICentre houses some of the nations most advanced and innovative technologies;
- The ‘EPICylinder’ is the Virtual Reality system of ‘the Future’. It allows collaborative data exploration on its 116 million pixels real-estate - the cylindrical screen is the highest resolution screen in the world.
- The ‘DomeLab’ is a six-metre diameter 3D hemispheric projection environment.
- The XR-Lab, consisting of several hardware solutions that allow the development and delivery of fully featured collaborative Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality applications. This lab also hosts a 3m hemispherical dome and multiple interaction devices
- The AVIE-SC, a 160-degree 3D cylindrical screen. The lab also includes a motion capture system.
